Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) presidential candidate, has landed in Abuja.
Bashir Ahmad, President Muhammadu Buhari’s media adviser on digital communications, had warned that Tinubu was likely to arrive in Abuja today before he arrived.
He gave the cue in a statement posted on his verified Twitter account.
Festus Keyamo, the spokesperson for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign council, tweeted, “The Eagle has landed!!!” after posting video of Tinubu’s arrival at the Abuja airport to confirm the arrival of the APC presidential flagbearer.
“After days of rigorous political deliberations and meetings in London, our presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is expected back in Abuja, later today,” tweeted Ahmad, a member of the APC Presidential Campaign Council.
Before Tinubu arrived, Keyamo asserted that the party had every right to run its presidential campaign in Lagos state on the accomplishments of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu of the All-Progressive Congress, APC.
He said, “The economy and the government Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been reputèd to be more in control of and be the leader of is that of Lagos state which is also an APC government. So we have every right to campaign with the records of Lagos state.”
Speaking on the whereabouts of Tinubu, Keyamo said Tinubu is not currently in Nigeria, adding that he will return to the country in “a couple of days.”
He said, “In my Twitter post on it, I said we are not trying to prove anything to anybody. Our candidate is not struggling to prove himself to anybody.
“This period of time, people make all kinds of enquiries — some mischievous and some genuine. To the mischief makers, we want to prove that the tail does not wag the dog; it is the dog that wags the tail.
“So, it is not at every point in time when you ask mischievous questions that we will be struggling to prove ourselves. We are not dancing to the tune and music of the opposition.
“We have our own tune and music, and we will play our music the way we want to play our music and dance the way we want to dance,” he said.
In the meantime, Keyamo said that Tinubu often cycles on an exercise bike in the viral video showing him doing so and said that the APC presidential candidate wasn’t trying to make a statement.
People who are close to him know that he is an avid rider, in his own words. He consistently engages in that. He does it on a regular basis. Therefore, we are not attempting to convince anyone of anything.
